Joseph Care in Later Life

Elected President of New London County Detectives Association

Mrs. Care was recently informed me that "after the war, Joe worked for the US Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory, in the Security Department.  He eventually became Head do Security, his title being SECURITY SPECIALIST.  The Sound Lab (now closed) was situated close to the Groton Submarine Base.

Upon Retirement from the Civil Service, he worked for a Credit Union and also with many voluntary groups in our Town of Niantic.

Joe came from a large Italian family, who became my family as they were all very friendly to me.

An Italian POW next to G-25 (Ashchurch Camp) made Joe a cigarette lighter: the first time he used it, he threw his treasured lighter out of the window - because he was so used to throwing away his matches! He ran outside to retrieve it - but too late: it was gone already!

Mrs. Care lives in an Assisted Living Community in Groton and can be contacted on
