Cpl. Frank L. Giacone

My name is Ron Giacone the son of Cpl. Frank L. Giacone who was stationed at Ashchurch G-25 during WWII. My dad died in 2002 and I have been trying to gather information regarding his service years while in Europe. Through several recent website searches I have slowly been homing in on his trail. Then today, I found your wonderful site where he is listed under 622 OBAM, right down to Roster Barrack 91.

I wanted to email you to say "THANK YOU" so much for taking the time to list all of this detail under one very easy to use website. Shortly after my dad passed away I wrote to the US Army records department to request copies of his service file. However, in 1973 a fire swept through the facility and destroyed a significant amount of military files to include many of the WWII vintage. They were only able to send me copies of his discharge papers, all other records of his duty stations were destroyed in the fire.

Frank met my mom in Ashchurch at one of the dances, (she was from Romford, Essex and had been conscripted into service to work at a munitions factory) they dated and eventually married in 1944. He was shipped off to France & Germany until the end of the war then returned to my mom who was then living back home in Romford with her parents.

My dad was shipped home in 1945 and my mom followed on the Queen Mary in February 1946. My older brother was born in Romford in May 1945, I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., November 1946.

Fast forward, after living a full and productive life, my mom and dad retired in 1990, he passed away 12 years later and is buried in East Hampton, N.Y. My mom, now 87 years old is still living and loves to recall many of the stories from her days in Ashchurch. She calls them "the good old bad days".
