Advice for GIs about the Locals!

One of the veterans let me see a copy of this, parts of which I reproduce:

Indoor Amusements
Not much whiskey is now being drunk as war time taxes have shot the price up to $4.50 (today £25)
The pub is “the poor man’s club” … gathering place - as such you will find a great deal of enjoyment in them
Re the ‘Tommy’: Two actions  on your part will slow up this friendship – swiping his girl and not appreciating what his army has been up against.  Yes, and rubbing it in that you are better paid than he is.
Keep out of arguments.  You can rub a Britisher up the wrong way by telling him ‘we came over and won the last one’.
Don’t try to talk politics.  You may hear them criticising their government which is their privilege, not ours
Don’t try to impress them that everything in America is better …their crack steam trains hold world steam records…
NEVER criticise the King or Queen
It is always impolite to criticise your hosts
It is militarily stupid to criticise your allies
